Factcheck.vlaanderen: premiering an independent fact-checking initiative

As disinformation and fake news spread across Flanders, we have developed a fact-checking platform: a first in the region.

Challenge

So many platforms, channels, news sites and comments sections: the increasing impact of fake news and disinformation can be overwhelming. How can you get a grip on trending stories, and present effective counter narratives?

Solution

We have created a social media monitoring pipeline that tracks trending stories, including fringe news sites. Factcheck.vlaanderen responds to fake news and claims by offering sound fact- and science-based counter narratives.

Result

The back-end of our website facilitates the fact-checking process. Its front-end is SEO-sensitive to present counter narratives higher up in organic search results.
