Challenge

The goal is to identify hate speech directed at football players: analyze who is targeted, when, how and by whom. We will collect that intel and analyze spaces of radicalisation linked with football and far-right groups, social media and web groups and channels.

We also have to identify narratives of radicalisation, how they start, spread and get shared in Europe. This requires content analysis of selected online spaces, including social media accounts, forums, Facebook groups, Telegram channels and websites.

We have to base our solution on initial input from the Fare Expert Steering committee in 10 countries.

Solution

For optimal ease of use, we integrated an annotation swiping tool to train our AI model: we coupled each swipe direction with a label indicator. Easy access, huge time-saver.

Our user-friendly monitoring dashboard displays the automated hate speech detection in football contexts, built on a multilingual language model we adapted for all partnering regions. Farenet provided us with football specific hate speech lexicons as seed lists for the detection algorithm.

The dashboard covers the UK, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Germany, Croatia and Bulgaria.
